Sunday Post | March 16th – March 22nd

In Real Life:

  • Today I’m throwing my sister’s bridal shower – bring on the mimosas (in my hip flask)!
  • I feel like this week just FLEW by… yet, I don’t have anything all that interesting to talk about.
  • I did do some day-drinking on St. Patrick’s Day with a good friend, and we decided female world domination would be best.
  • In case you missed it, April from The Steadfast Reader and I are hosting a readalong for Cloud Atlasby David Mitchell next month!!! More info here, and you know you want to join!

In Case You Missed It:

Currently Reading:

The Storied Life of A.J. FikryThe Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, by Gabrielle Zevin

My in-real-life book club is swiftly approaching, so I want to get this read stat! Probably a perfect book for my Hausfrau hangover. I’ve wanted to read this for awhile, and have heard excellent things, so happy to finally be getting to it.

Almost Famous Women: StoriesAlmost Famous Women, by Megan Mayhew Bergman

The conversations are a-flowing with Backlist Books for our (I’m sure first of many to come) buddy read. This book isn’t really anything like I thought it would be, but certainly sparks interesting dialogue!

Currently Listening:

Swamplandia!Swamplandia!, by Karen Russell

I did a fair amount of driving this weekend – which is when I get the majority of my audio book listening done. I’m not exactly sure what to think of this yet with the gator wrestling and such, but am oddly intrigued. Have you read this? Let me know.

Currently (Always) Watching:

Friends (Season 5)

Always in constant rotation. I, of course, have all the DVD’s, but now that it’s on Netflix, I mean… bedtime necessity.

What have you been up to? Anything fun, bookish or otherwise, on the horizon?

The Sunday Post is hosted by Kimba @ The Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

  1. I have The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry on my TBR list. I can’t wait to read it. I also LOVE Friends. I have all the DVDs, but I can’t help watching it when I see it on TV. It never gets old! 🙂

    1. Friends is like one of those comforting shows. I’ve seen them all a million times, know all the punch lines, but still watch all the time? What’s one of your favorite episodes? I think mine is “The One with the Embryos” where the guys and girls play the who knows you better game, and the girls lose the apartment. “Oooooh, that’s interesting…” SUCH a good one!

      1. That was such a great episode. One of my favorites is “The One Where Ross is Fine”; where he finds out about Joey and Rachel dating. That one always has me laughing – “I’m making fajitas!” haha. and when he grabs the hot pan, lol.

  2. Everything you’re reading/listening to is on my TBR list. I wish I could just upload them into my brain!
Hooray for great excuses to day-drink! 😉

  3. I LOVED A.J. Fikry. It’s such a beautiful, whimsical read. And I think a good counterpoint to the other two you’ve got on the go! You’re right about Almost Famous Women – not as expected at all, but definitely bringing up some really interesting discussions! I am so glad you’re listening to Swamplandia!. I finished it a week or so ago, and MAN I’m still processing! Julianne from Outlandish Lit loves it (her with the weird book fetish) and I definitely thought it was well written, but it was another that swerved sharply from the story I expected. Looking forward to discussing it with you once you’re done!

    1. I haven’t started it yet, with all the shenanigans I’ve gotten up to this weekend, but am looking forward to it (AJ that is). Swamplandia is interesting so far… we’ll see how it goes. I know it was up for the Pulitzer (I think the year that no one won), and have heard good, but interesting comments…

    1. So far, according to Goodreads, the other ladies in my book club who’ve read it already have given it 3 stars… so we’ll see! I’ve heard such great things on the blogisphere, and am hopeful I’ll love it! 🙂

  4. This is a post from 10 days ago, so you’ve probably already finished, but I think Swamplandia! is brilliant! Karen Russel’s writing is beautiful. I can’t imagine listening to it as an audiobook, though. Is that going/did that go alright?

    1. I’ve got about 2 1/2 hours to go. I’m not sure about it… I’m enjoying it, but it’s a bit odd. I’m kind of hoping things will come together in the end. I really like the female narrator for Ava’s parts, but the male narrator just isn’t right for Kiwi. He’s not a bad narrator, just too old sounding for a 17 year old. We shall see 🙂 (Hope you had fun on your recent trip)
